Service Summary

I have provided extensive service to UMW, the College of Business (COB), and to the practitioner community. I chaired the UMW Distance and Blended Learning Committee in the 2013-2014 academic year. During my tenure as chair, the committee reviewed nine majority online course proposals, developed a policy for instructor initiated drops for online courses, and created a “helpful hints” document for creating majority online course proposals. I also served as a member of the UMW Distance and Blended Learning committee during the spring 2013 semester.

I served as the COB representative for the Center for Honor, Leadership and Service during the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 academic years. During the 2013-2014 academic year, I served as an advisory board member for the Center for Teaching Excellence and Innovation. During the 2013-2014 academic year, this committee reviewed eight funding proposals. Finally, I served on the search committee for the Associate Provost for Academic Engagement and Student Success during the 2013-2014 academic year.

I have served the students at UMW as well. During the 2013-2014 academic year, I was the faculty advisor to the Canterbury Club at UMW. During the 2012-2013, I was a first-year advisor, advising 18 students. During the 2013-2014 academic year, I also voluntarily advised some of my former first-year advisees because they had difficulty obtaining advising appointments with their respective student success coordinators. I supervised four internships during the summer 2013 semester, one internship during the fall 2013 semester, and one internship during the spring 2014 semester. Since the spring 2012 semester, I have written six recommendation letters for UMW students.

I have also served the COB. I was a member of the three person task force assigned to redesign the MBA during the spring 2012 semester. I researched MBA programs of other universities similar to UMW via online research and calling colleagues at other schools. This task force successfully redesigned the MBA into a rigorous and marketable degree that attends to the needs of the greater Fredericksburg practitioner community.

I was secretary for the COB Academic Policy and Admissions committee for the years 2012-2013 and 2013-2014. This committee revised the entrance requirements for the redesigned MBA program, resulting in a balanced admittance formula that accounted for prior work experience as well an appropriate GMAT score. During the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 academic years, this committee evaluated six readmission requests to COB graduate programs, resulting in successful readmission for several students.

During the 2012-2013 academic year, I was a member of the COB Faculty Organization and Welfare Committee (FOWC). I have represented the COB at various university functions. During the spring 2012 fall 2013 semesters, I functioned as a COB representative at Discovery Days, at which students and parents could ask questions about UMW.

I have also been a member of search committees within the COB. During the spring 2013 semester, I was a member of a search committee for a full-time management faculty position. During the summer 2013, I was a member of a search committee for an outreach and social media specialist position within the COB. The committee reviewed 120 candidates, completed five Skype interviews, and conducted two campus interviews. During the fall 2013 semester, I was a member of a search committee for an Accounting faculty position.

I have actively engaged the academic community by reviewing several papers for academic journals and conferences. During the 2011-2012 academic year, I reviewed two papers for the 2012 AIS Educators conference. During the 2012-2013 academic year, I reviewed two papers for the 2013 IS section meeting of the AAA and one paper for the 2013 European Conference on Information Systems. I also served as a session moderator of IS Audit and Control session for the 2013 AAA IS section meeting. During the 2012-2013 academic year, I reviewed a paper for the Journal of Emerging Technologies in Accounting and during the 2013-2014 academic year, I reviewed a paper for the Asian Academy of Management Journal of Accounting & Finance.
